Which health profession to pursue often seems an easy choice at first, but as you become more familiar with the differences between them and the requirements for each, you may become interested in an alternate career path. As soon as you arrive at Wake Forest, sign up for the Health Professions google group. You can sign up on the health professions web page http://college.wfu.edu/prehealth/. That way you will be informed of programming that will help you choose the career option that best suits your interests and skills. Events include panel discussions on career choices, and workshops on how to be a competitive applicant, write a personal statement, and find an internship or shadowing opportunity.
The Health Professions Advising Program at Wake Forest is designed to ensure that you are aware of what it takes to be a competitive applicant to the health professions program to which you aspire. Advisors are available for each of the health professions. Take advantage of this resource. While the health professions advisors do not substitute for your academic advisor, they have experience in course planning and other prerequisites required for particular health professions, and can advise you on the process of application.
Visit the health professions website (http://college.wfu.edu/prehealth/). There is a wealth of information there that will help guide you in your career planning. In particular, check out the Health Professions Handbook. A link to the Handbook can be found on the website home page.
