Message from the Chair

The Biology Department Chair (2022 – present) is Dr. Erik C. Johnson.Dr. Erik Johnson

Welcome to Biology at Wake Forest University! Our faculty are dedicated teachers and productive researchers who provide training covering the breadth of biology, from molecules to the biosphere. We provide a rigorous science education within an uncompromising liberal arts framework. We support the commitment of Wake Forest University to Inclusive Excellence, defined as the intentional incorporation of the cultures, worldviews, histories, traditions, and talents of all people, across all places, to achieve the highest teaching, learning, and scholarly outcomes.

Our faculty work closely with undergraduate and graduate students in the classroom, laboratory, and field. Our BS degree provides thorough preparation for graduate and professional school; our BA degree is a flexible, individualized program that combines well with other majors and minors. If you are a prospective student interested in visiting, please send an email to biology@wfu.edu. If you are one of our alumni, we encourage you to share your Wake Forest story and your post-Wake Forest career with us.

You are welcome to connect at any time with the Biology Department by emailing the Chair.
